About Local 636

Local 636 Backgrounder

  • Many years ago, utility workers in Ontario were represented by separate independent Local Unions while full time management organizations had access to a province-wide communications network.

  • Recognizing the strength in unity, these independent locals joined together to form what is now Local Union 636.

  • Today, Local 636 proudly represents almost 4400 men and women employed in various types of industry in the public and private sectors from Windsor to Ottawa.

Standing with you / Speaking for you…

  • Six (6) Full-time Business Representatives are assigned to provide leadership, counsel and support to members in Regions across Ontario;

  • Expert Legal Counsel provided by KoskieMinsky;

  • State-of-the-art technology to serve our members\' needs;

Representation at all Levels

  • International Representatives offer guidance support and resources to help us deal with issues on the national, provincial, regional and municipal stages.

  • The Business Manager; President; Vice President; Treasurer and; Recording Secretary are elected by the members.

  • Regional Representatives are elected by the members to serve them on the provincial Executive Board

  • Unit Officers elected from their membership to meet the individual needs of each unit

Education/Training

  • Local 636 is committed to educating its members and keeping them aware of the issues which challenge them in the workplace.

  • A full time Education and Training Officer provides the resources and training courses necessary keep our members informed on various issues such as:

    • Negotiations

    • Wages and benefit trends

    • Health and safety in the workplace

    • New or changing labour laws

    • Workplace Safety and Insurance Board legislation

    • Grievance handling

    • Steward training

    • Effective Communications

    • Apprentice Training
